Landlord Atlas Commercial License Terms

Version 1.1, September 29, 2026. These terms govern the Production License. They apply to the dataset release current at purchase and to every release delivered during the term. Prices, and the free state sample, are on the data license page.

1. Who is agreeing

The license is granted by Landlord Atlas LLC, a Michigan limited liability company ("Landlord Atlas," "we"). The licensee is the organization named on the order, or, if none is named, the organization the buyer works for ("you"). Paying the invoice is your acceptance of these terms. The person buying confirms they are authorized to accept them for the organization.

2. What is licensed

The Landlord Atlas dataset as published at landlordatlas.com: the selection, field structure, summaries, verification dates, notes and compilation. The statutes themselves are public law and belong to no one. Every release published during the term is included. The current release is delivered from the licensed feed under /data/current/ with your license key, together with the public machine-readable changelog.

3. What you may do

For the term, on a non-exclusive basis, you may:

4. What you may not do

5. Attribution

Name Landlord Atlas and link to landlordatlas.com, or to the page a fact appears on, once on each page or screen where the data is displayed. Placement and styling are yours; existence is not optional. Reduced attribution is available only under a custom license.

6. What we commit to

We do not promise that the dataset covers every law that exists, and nothing here is legal advice.

7. Term, renewal and ending

8. Fees

The fee is the price published on the data license page at purchase, paid by invoice before the license key is issued. Taxes that apply to you are yours. Custom licenses are invoiced separately under their own proposal.

9. Warranty and disclaimer

Landlord Atlas is not a law firm. The dataset provides general information about state landlord-tenant statutes for informational purposes only. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for the advice of an attorney. Use of the data does not create an attorney-client relationship.

We warrant one thing: that the verification process described in section 6 is actually performed. Otherwise the dataset is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, timeliness, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. Laws change between verification passes, and you are responsible for confirming against the cited statutes before relying on any figure in a way that carries legal consequences.

10. Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, neither party is liable to the other for indirect, incidental, consequential or special damages, or for lost profits, however arising. Our total liability under this license is limited to the fees you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim. You are responsible for what you publish; we do not indemnify your editorial use. We will defend you against a claim that the dataset compilation itself infringes a third party's intellectual property, provided you tell us promptly and let us control the defense.

11. General

These terms and the license page at purchase are the whole agreement for the production license. Michigan law governs, and the courts located in Michigan have jurisdiction. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stands. We may publish a new version of these terms; the version in force when you bought keeps governing that purchase. Notices to us go to [email protected]; notices to you go to the email on the order.

Questions before buying: [email protected].
